Recently my wife and I purchased new AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8+ phones.
I was having difficulty sending her text messages. They would come back failed. She could text me fine and I could reply to her messages. That is, if I replied within about 5 minutes of her sending the message to me.
AT&T re-registered the phones and checked all the network settings and it did not fix the issue.
After days of trying to figure out the issue, I decided to turn off “Advanced Messaging”. Advanced Messaging allows you to send larger files, see read receipts and see that the other person is typing etc.
From the Galaxy S8 and S8+, and I am sure other Android phones:
- Open the default / stock messaging application.
- Open the 3 dots on the upper right corner of the main screen.
- Select Settings.
- Open “Advanced Messaging” – this may be called “Enhanced Messaging” on some phones.
- Turn off Advanced Messaging by select the slider on the right side.
Now test sending an SMS text to the person that you were getting the failed messages from.
Hopefully you are now getting successful SMS texts to go through.
